Science at Darby Island Research Station, June 2017

June was a busy month at the research station, with scientists John Stolz (Duquesne), Amanda Oehlert (RSMAS), Al Piggot (Gulliver), Julie Bartley and Sarah Bruihle (Gustavus Adolphus) and Ashley Murphy (Rutgers). Focusing on microscopy of salt ponds, geochemistry of grapestone facies, and sampling modern stromatolites, it was a highly successful science expedition. It was especially nice to introduce ancient stromatolite researchers (Julie, Sarah and Ashley) to a living system, and we look forward to follow up and modern-ancient comparisons! Our youngest crew member, 1.5 year old Evie Piggot, sailed with her parents from Miami aboard the Badfish! Never to young to start blobbing and collecting shells and rocks!
