Jewel Thompson (left) and Bianca Barone have been selected as the Alf Thompson Memorial Scolarship interns for summer 2016. Twenty-five year old Jewel is a graduate of Florida Atlantic University where she earned a degree in marine studies. She is seeking to become more hands on with mangrove and coastal reef ecology research and conservation initiatives.
Bianca, now 22, has worked as a husbandry aquarist at the Atlantis Resort, Paradise Island for over three years. She would like to take a deeper look at what marine ecological questions can be answered, and how she can become a catalyst for greater public awareness of coastal protection and restoration efforts.
Both scholarship recipients return from the Bimini Biological Field Station Shark Lab on September 4th, 2016.
Watch for the 2017 application package for the ATMS early in the New Year!
